Position Title: Quality Analyst I/II    

Department: Quality Assurance / IT 

Reports To: Quality Assurance Manager or Lead Quality Analyst

Supervises: NA 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt      

Work Location: On-site  

Shift: Core business hours/extended hours as required to support key deliverables 

 

Position Overview: 

The Quality Analyst I/II is an experienced professional responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of IT products through comprehensive testing and evaluation. This role involves designing and executing detailed test plans, identifying and addressing defects, and collaborating with development teams to ensure products meet high-quality standards and user requirements. The Quality Analyst II also takes on more complex testing tasks and provides guidance to junior QA team members. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The essential duties of the position include the following, and other duties may be assigned. 

 

1. Test Planning and Execution: 

  1. Design, develop, and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on product requirements and specifications. 
  2. Perform both manual and automated testing to identify defects and ensure the product meets quality and performance criteria. 
  3. Document and report test results, including identifying and tracking defects through to resolution. 

2. Defect Identification and Reporting: 

  1. Identify, document, and manage software defects and inconsistencies. 
  2. Work closely with development teams to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues. 
  3. Verify defect fixes and ensure issues are resolved satisfactorily before product release. 

3. Requirement Analysis: 

  1. Review and analyze product requirements and design documents to understand testing needs and ensure comprehensive test coverage. 
  2. Participate in requirements review meetings and provide feedback on testability and coverage. 

4. Test Automation: 

  1. Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks, if applicable. 
  2. Execute automated test scripts and analyze results to identify issues and ensure product quality. 

5. Documentation and Reporting: 

  1. Maintain detailed and accurate test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and defect reports. 
  2. Prepare and present test summary reports and communicate findings to stakeholders. 
  3. Ensure testing activities are documented and aligned with project timelines and deliverables. 

6. Continuous Improvement: 

  1. Contribute to the development and enhancement of testing processes, methodologies, and tools. 
  2. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in software testing and quality assurance. 
  3. Provide feedback on testing tools and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness. 

7. Collaboration: 

  1. Collaborate with development teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and quality expectations. 
  2. Participate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss project status, issues, and solutions. 
  3. Mentor and provide guidance to junior QA team members as needed. 

8. Project Support: 

  1. Assist in managing and prioritizing testing activities across multiple projects. 
  2. Provide support in resolving complex testing issues and contribute to project planning and execution. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  1. No direct supervisory responsibilities, but may mentor and provide guidance to junior QA team members. 

Qualifications: 

Education/Experience: 

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., ISTQB) are desirable. 
  2. Experience: 2-4 years of experience in quality assurance or software testing, with a proven track record in IT product development environments. 

Skills: 

  1. Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices. 
  2. Proficiency in manual and automated testing tools and techniques. 
  3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. 
  4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. 
  5. Experience with test automation tools and scripting languages is a plus. 

Language Ability: 

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  2. Ability to articulate complex technical issues and solutions clearly and concisely to various stakeholders. 
  3. Proficient in creating detailed documentation related to testing and defects. 

Math Ability: 

  1. Competent in analyzing and interpreting testing data, including defect metrics and performance indicators. 
  2. Ability to use statistical tools to draw meaningful insights from testing results. 

Reasoning Ability: 

  1. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. 
  2. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex software issues. 
  3. Capability to understand and address potential problem areas in complex systems. 

Certificates and Licenses: 

  1. ISTQB Foundation Level or equivalent certification is desirable but not required. 

Travel: 

  1. This position may require minimal travel (up to 5%) for meetings, training, or conferences.
